4site Tigers fight for survival!
Report by Cain McKee
It was with great anticipation that the 4site Tigers togged out for the annual football tournament in aid of Novas (Homeless Agency) held in the UL sports ground on Saturday. As current Shield holders, we set out to retain our title and bring home the silverware again.
We found out in the first match that the standard of players this time round had considerably increased as we struggled to overcome our first opponents, Haven’t got a Kalou FC. Defeated 3-1 we re-grouped undeterred and determined to do better in the second game.
Sadly our second game ended in a 3-0 defeat to a Deportivo team that travel the country playing 5-aside and 7-aside tournaments. As you could imagine, this team were a well-oiled machine and played a very controlled and disciplined game of football.
Piling on the pressure
Our last game was a much tighter game with The Tigers fighting back from 2-0 down to get a goal back and pile the pressure on our opponents only to be hit on the break and see us concede another. At 3-1 down we had nothing to lose so we pushed again and managed to get another one back – too late however to save the game for ourselves.
Somewhat dejected and ready to review our strategy and training programme (!) we all thought it was time to go home until we were informed by the luck of the draw that we had secured a slot in the Shield semi-final. This certainly perked us up as we were back in with a chance to retain our beloved Shield now. It wasn’t to be. Despite a gallant effort by the team we suffered a tough defeat going down and out 6-2 to the All Stars. Congratulations to eventual Shield winners, Sheffield Tuesday who can display the cup until next year!
We’ll fight another day!
It was a tough tournament for all and clearly our team manager will have to go, but we all enjoyed the day and most importantly were able to contribute to a very worthwhile cause.
